Margie Volkwyn trained in Textile Design and weaving at Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town SA. After qualifying she was prolific in creating weavings, exploring colour extensively whilst dyeing and spinning fleece for her works. Margie was commissioned by Erik Laubsher, foremost South African Landscape artist to weave a large tapestry of his design, which was hung at the head office of the Norwich Union Building in 1987. Following the success of this project, Margie completed many other weaving commissions for businesses and private homes.
Gradually she moved from weavings into different media, including charcoal life drawing commissions and acrylics. During this period she was commissioned to paint murals for restaurants and homes as well as sets for drama productions. Margie started painting in 2005 with acrylics on box canvases and her works are unframed. Her inspiration is gathered from nature, especially flowers. Flowers have always fascinated her with their variety of beauty, colour and form. She is a member of the South African Society of Artists and has exhibited her works on the annual and merit exhibitions since 2009 and has received several awards.
